“Mianara” Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 Small onion sliced
  • 1-2  cloves of garlic smashed
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ can tomato paste
  • ½ cup water
  • Season to taste with: salt, pepper, dried oregano and basil.
  • 2 tsp.  sugar

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in sauce pan.  Add onions and garlic and sauté, but don’t brown.
  2. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and water.   Stir in seasonings.
  3. Bring to boil,  Then reduce heat, and simmer for an hour or two.  Discard garlic.

Todd’s Updated Version of the “Mianara” Sauce Ingredients

Forgive me Mia – I have updated the existing recipe.

  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 Small onion, diced
  • 3  cloves of garlic, diced
  • 1 tsp each of dried thyme, oregano, and basil
  • 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp of pepper
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • ½ can tomato paste
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup water

Directions

  1. On medium heat in a medium sauce pan add 1 TBSP of olive oil. Add onion and sweat for 2 – 3 minutes.
  2. Add garlic, thyme, oregano, and basil. Let cook for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add tomato paste, salt, pepper, and sugar. Stir for another 30 seconds.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, and water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer for an hour or two. Taste and add any additional salt or pepper.
