Halloween – Tips and Tricks
Halloween can be a scary time of the year for those who are trying to eat less and keep track of calories. You might find yourself haunted by the pile of candy in the house, which often leads to binge eating, sugar rushes, and promises to make a better day out of tomorrow.
How do we manage these treats?
- Buy candy you do not like. This reduces the temptation to eat them, and makes you feel more obligated to hand them out.
- Minimize the Exposure: get the tricks! Kids love them just as much and they last longer. There are lots of options at the dollar stores! Pretzels are a good option. Many stores have a box of individual pretzels that you can hand out. They are only 50 calories!!!
- Wait until the last minute to buy the Halloween candy and only buy an amount that will be needed for that day. This way, you are not tempted to tap into the candy storage before the event, and will not have left overs to indulge after either.
- Enjoy the ones that you love: Skip the sugary candy that does not make you crazy and choose only a couple that you really love. PLAN, count the calories and incorporate to your day. Enjoy the fun-sized treats one bite at a time; mindfully. Share the rest and keep them far to avoid temptations (freezing is a good idea if you have to keep them).
